Multiple interventions, One company, One Tool – Playback Theatre!

This article reflects on First Drop Theatre’s work with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), where Playback Theatre was used across several organisational interventions rather than for a single topic.
The work included conversations about gender and leadership, broader leadership development, and senior-leadership themes such as communication, risk-taking, strategy and vision. In each setting, participants shared personal experiences that became material for immediate theatrical reflection, helping abstract ideas become more relatable and grounded in lived moments.
The article highlights the versatility of Playback Theatre as an organisational tool. By inviting people to share dilemmas, vulnerabilities, decisions and lessons from their own experience, the format can create a different quality of dialogue and reflection across levels of an organisation while retaining the same core practice of listening, improvisation and enactment.
