Interactive Performances

Our performances let you sit back and enjoy while also making you look inwards and introspect. Our performances cover the range from Improv & Interactive theatre to scripted performances with original stories.

Improv and Interactive Performances

Playback Theatre

An innovative format where members of the audience share a personal story and watch it being enacted, on-the-spot. Playback helps create ‘safe spaces’ where people can openly discuss on various topics leading to an overall more evolved understanding of various perspectives. The deep self reflection that it enables is therapeutic in nature.

Theatre of the Oppressed

A format where there are no spectators and only ‘spect-actors’ who are participants in the creation of the drama. The participants are given the power, using the techniques of Theatre of the Oppressed format, to uncover the root cause of their problems and how they can act to change the situation.

Our Pioneering explortations

First Drop Theatre combined Playback Theatre with the classical Indian tradition of Oral storytelling as a means to explore how we can tap into Indian culture and integrate it with Playback Theatre. We had Aparna Jaishankar, a renowned storyteller, share stories from Indian Mythology and Folk tales. These stories were used to open up the audience to reflect more on their personal journey on that theme. We have explored themes like adapting to change, relationships, decision making, resilience, and more through this endeavour and there are many more in the pipeline!

First Drop theatre has contributed these formats to the oeuvre of Playback Theatre:
* The Fluid Perspective – a format where actors use only metaphors to convey the emotion shared by the teller. The use of metaphors helps to create a certain distancing for the teller as well as makes the emotion behind the story very universal.
* Poetic Dialogue –  Where two actors engage in an exchange that combines poetic language with mild movement. One of the actors plays the teller while the other either plays another important character or the inner self or an important element from the story. The format showcases the relationship between the two and is chosen when the story carries that flavour of a strong bond or relationship.

Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.
